So we agreed to get bak down to Philly EARLY on Sunday. Well, of course
i overslept. But we still made it down in time to get a good spot in line.
That assured us a slot in the little skatepark. We hung out in line for
abt an hour and a 1/2 and met a lot of kewl people that showed interest
in our boards. Soon as they let us in(10am),we signed up for a 1:30pm time slot in the little skatepark. While signing up for our slot, we met Lou Dini. He's an FDR skatepark regular/founder. He is also known by his alter-ego 'Hurly P'. He was tellin us to head over to FDR later so he can see us snake it up. We told him we'd be there. So then we walked around a bit, watched the fools do pull-ups at the Marines booth. I drooled over the red custom Military Hummer with the Marines sword painted on the side. After a while it started sprinkling and we feared our little skatepark session would get cancelled, but by 1:30, the sky had cleared and all was dry again. Time to get the snakes on yeahhhh. We skated for about 20mins and people were askin us to ride the 6ft pipe. So i jumped in the middle and started pumpin to the top, wen 2 seconds later, an XGames guy runs up to me and says "you cant skate on this." I said "why not?" XGames guy, "Bikes aren't allowed." I looked down, in case I suddenly had a bike attached to my feet and said, "ummmm, this is not a bike." XGames guy, "I know, but bikes and snakeboards arent allowed in the halfpipe." I said, "I was just skating for 20mins over there on your little streeetcourse, yet Icant skate on this? What's the difference???" XGames guy, "Look, my boss only told me that bikes and snakeboards aren't allowed, but you can skate on the streetcourse all you want." I was done wasting my time with him and went back to finish my time on the streetcourse. Go figure tho, thats ESPN for ya.....idiots. So, with our time over, and totally sick of the whole ESPN political nonsense, we went to leave, but everyone in the little skatepark waiting/viewing area mobbed us asking about our boards and wanted to try them. Well, 3 demo-ing hours, autograph signing/pix taking and 100 Flipside biz cards later, we had to pry ourselves away from those charmed by the snakes, in order to head over to FDR Skatepark. FDR Skatepark. Underneath RT95. All cement. Except for a huge 12ft metal vert. Wow, the place is so smooth. Maddest of flow. The cowboy guy was rippin it up at lightning speeds. And of course it was fun to snake it. We saw Lou Dini there and he was siked to see us snakin his park. It started raining again, but we were safe under the cover of RT95, yeah! I went over to the Vert ramp and crashed an awkward 540flatspin, making a Philly local run for cover. She thought i had hurt myself, but i got up laughing, seeing her run away. It ended being a good day after all. And this time we remembered to bring sweatshirts, for the ride back home. ~Kara and Keith...of Team FLIPSIDE |
